Description
There is selective re-enforcement for parking in the loading zone in front of my gallery and Orange Blossom Catering. As part owner of this building which encompasses three-fourths of the city block. The loading sign does not specify a time limit. It is difficult to unload in what has been described as a 30 minute time limit. It was Wednesday 8/29 when I parked my 2015 Transit van in the loading zone. It was raining and I was in the gallery making room for my merchandise. It was 3:52. At 5:52 I went to unload. It was still sprinkling, but not
a downpour. I received a traffic ticket. Another vehicle with a
disabled license was in front of my van in the two hour parking space. I understand they are given a pass, but REALLYl it was still in that spot the next morning. A motorcycle is parked in a two hour spot 24/7. This is unfair to merchants. Catering trucks have been cited while actively unloading. Beverage and food semi-trucks occupy the street and are a traffic hazard, but are NEVER cited. At least our vans are off of the street.

Per Parking Enforcement Management:
Good Afternoon. Thank you for submitting your parking concerns. Parking Enforcement is required to enforce the City ordinances in regulating the on-street spaces. Loading Zones are generally 30 minute parking spaces unless specified as 15 minutes via signage in certain areas of downtown. They are set at 30 minutes to gives all customers (including merchants, delivery companies, etc.) the opportunity to unload their respective items, materials or passengers. Parking two hours in a 30 minute loading zone (or in excess of 30 minutes) takes away the opportunity for other parkers to utilize those spaces. This would also result in a high volume of dissatisfied customers.
If you need all day parking for a day or multiple days, the City offers the pelican permit option at an economical cost where you could park all day (8am to 5pm) at a 2 hour or metered space as long as you have a commercial vehicle or vehicle with commercial letters.
All parkers including disabled vehicles are also required to follow the same guidelines when parking in a loading zone spaces. The city ordinance does permit a long duration stay for 2 hour or metered spaces pertaining to disabled parking.
