There was probably a utility repair here. The fist step in restoring is pour a sub base of concrete. Once this has had time to set, I am sure the city will come back to overla it with asphalt over an even larger area
I used to think that, but then I experienced an odyssey of hounding the city for 6 months to fix a crater twice this depth and covering the entire bike lane. Now I don't assume the city will fix anything without hounding. After all, look at the horribly dangerous steel plate at 11th and Penn. That hasn't been fixed for over a year.
For those interested, Councilmember Andre Strickland saw this on SeeClickFix and asked me about it on 17Dec.Unfortunately, as of today, the crater is still there.
