Since I live just off Trailing Creek, I completely agree with Allison's request. We use that entrance frequently at night and are always concerned about having to slow to make the turn without being able to see the entrance well enough and having traffic behind run into us since they also cannot see the entrance to Cross Creek at night.

It is black dark turning on Trailing Creek, sometime I passed by the street. I agree with Allison 100%. We need a light.

I also live off Trailing Creek, I completely agree. It is a extremely dark and dangerous corner. Please take our plea for a street light.

Would you consider seeing if it would be feasible to also add a flashing light at this intersection? Today at our HOA event, several of our residents expressed concern about the speed of vehicles on Capshaw when they are trying to slow down to turn onto Trailing Creek. Anything you can do to make this intersection safer would be greatly appreciated. A couple of months ago a motorcycle rider laid his motorcycle down and slid up under a car to keep from hitting it when he came up too fast on a car waiting to turn into Cross Creek off Capshaw. He left before police could be called. Thank you.

Thank you for contacting the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering. Staff have reviewed the intersection in question and have determined that there is sufficient intersection site distance turning left and right from Trailing Creek. In addition, vehicles on the mainline ( Capshaw) are not inhibited by any obstruction approaching the intersection. A flashing beacon/light is primarily used to draw attention to particular intersections and other situations where drivers need to be warned of unexpected or hazardous conditions that are not readily apparent. In this situation, no hazard were noted, and the roadway had no crest vertical curves ( hills) limiting sight distance. Given this fact, the installation of a caution light would not be ideal for this location. Lastly, caution lights/beacons have no bearing on the speed of vehicles traveling on the main line and in this situation, therefore would not result in lower speeds as suggested in the complaint. Traffic Engineering will determine if any additional signage is needed or can be modified on Capshaw for advanced warning. So is the entire issue closed? The original request was for a street light, not a flashing caution light. The street light isnt even mentioned in the response.
