People like you are the ones that cause the roadrage because you think the way you drive is the proper way. Well let me tell you, you're the one who is wrong. Let me give you a little lesson about merging. One person from the left lane, then one person from the right lane at the point of where the merge is, not 1/2 mile before the merge. Just because you choose to wait in the right lane from the 252 exit does not mean that we have to get in line after you. If we do not cross the yellow line on the left, we are not breaking the law. Bottom line - Learn how to be polite and you might find some peace in your life. You sound like the type of person that has problems with many aspects of your life. Start solving those problems from within. Improve your inner self and you'll be amazed at how things like this are no longer bothersome. Have a nice day.

To Eric, I contacted Penn Dot on this issue, The road sign states"left lane ends ahead" What they are saying is - merge right, no one pays attention to the signs and waits till the end and causes a major back up, they are aware of the problem, PSP can and will write a ticket if they catch you waiting to jump ahead of the cars that are in the right lane, apparently you haven't been one of the ones that hasn't been sideswiped or sat in backed up traffic. This is an easy fix, paint merge arrows on the road and people will pay more attention, I asked about your merging process and again I was told I was right! Eric is correct with his explanation of the proper way to merge. If you choose to get over into the right lane a mile or more before the actual merge, that is your right. However, if i drive up the left hand side of the road and merge at the proper location, don't get mad and don't pull halfway into my lane to block me. At that point, you are the unsafe driver because you are out of your lane. A merge works best when both lanes stay full and actually merge where the two lanes narrow to one.

I agree with Eric and Harry. Penndot regulation 3309.1 forbids driving in more than 1 lane of traffic (In other words, blocking those who would pass you on the left). Donna, I don't know who you talked to in PennDot, but I believe they were giving you their personal opinion. PennDot regulation 3313D allows passing on the left when overtaking a vehicle and/or when travelling at a speed greater than trraffic flow. I defy anyone to find something in the Penndot regulations that requires you to get in the right lane and sit.

I agree, you are not, understanding what i mean, as you pass the yeild right arrow,you are to start to yeild right,not when the lane ends, people are at a standstill, thats not overtaking a vehicle,that is cutting off a vehicle!

Donna, I wrote an E-mail to Penndot yesterday and quoted the same regulations. I hope to hear back from them soon. There are defintely two schools of thought here and there have been actual studies accomplished to determine the fastest way to move traffic. Until I hear for someone official who quotes actiual regulations I will continue to use roadways laned for traffic and overtake on the left.

I think one of the main problems at that merge is that the ending point is not very well defined. After the left lane ends the roadway stays very wide for a long distance and people try to scootch up and stay to the left as long as they can and eventually you end up with two cars side by side in one lane after the yellow lines seperating the lanes have ended. Of course some people are jerks and won't yield to let it evenly combine one rght one left. I make it a point to let people in merging from the left but it does make me mad when I give someone an opportunity to merge and they still insist on going further down just to squeeze in at the very last possible second by forcing someone out of their way. Really is the extra 5 seconds worth shoving past people like that?
