I am not sure why they changed the East & West traffic lights to go at the same time. I've seen just about 4 - 5 accidents a day around 5pm because if it.

What is so confusing about this? I want to understand what is so hard about two lanes turning at the same time. 91 has the same thing not 500' down the road.
I work right down the road on Curtis, and I have yet to see any accidents there. And I can see the intersection from my office.

I have watched this intersection for three days now (Thursday, Friday, and Monday) and I have not seen any of the supposedly daily accidents that occur. This is at lunchtime, where there is a lot of people using the intersections.
I have seen a high number of close calls (24) but those people were all trying to turn left when oncoming traffic was, well, oncoming.
You only turn left when there is no oncoming traffic. That's a law, and common sense.
However, I have noticed that there is a lot less people waiting to turn left, which is the primary reason they changed the lights in the first place.
I honestly don't think this could be helped much, except for a sign that already states the obvious: "Left turn Yeld to oncoming traffic"
But people should know this already though.

Laurie, the people going straight have the right of way. What is so hard about that.
They should place a cop there for one day to ticket all the confused people leaving work just to teach them how an intersection works.

Laurie, while I don't agree with the manner that DB spoke, he is correct about the left-turn laws.
Don't turn left unless you are sure you can make it, and there will be no accidents.
Changing the lights back to the way it was will make the wait even longer--which it was before the construction.
Accidents happen. Just try not to be the reason if the accident by following the law, and making sure you are safe and let other people worry about themselves.

I haven't seen this issue at ALL. I watched the intersection for three days, and nothing like this. At lunch and during rush hour.
I did see people who went out into the middle of the intersection--which is ILLEGAL--and get stuck... But nothing anywhere close to 15 cars deep.
When your light is green, you are to remain at the bar until you are able to go. If you can't go, then you can't go. It's not your fault, it is just how it is.
Find an alternate route, or deal with the traffic.
