Update from Engineering: Thank you for your post. As you know, Duke Energy is currently in the process of converting street lights to higher efficiency LED technology. The street lights included in this conversion are owned and maintained by Duke Energy within the City limits. The conversion program started in June 2018 and should be completed by June 2020.
Both the City and Duke Energy have received requests for either new lights, or for the adjustment of lights already installed, or for the shielding of existing lights due to their output encroaching onto private property.
While poor quality lighting can be frustrating, these new LED streetlights offer advanced light focusing, sending light to the street where it is needed without the unwanted spread of light offsite. We believe the new LED streetlights will resolve most of the light distribution problems.
Duke Energy does have plans to make all of these specific adjustment and install requests, however they will only be able to do so once the overall LED conversion project has been completed. We have made note of your address and your request, and will forward it to Duke on your behalf.
We appreciate your patience as Duke works to improve the lighting throughout our city. Thank you again for your post.
