There are two crosswalks on 144th fairly close together. They are across the street from SHAG Tukwila Village Buildings D & E. Also, Riverton Heights Apts. The one by Bldg D has flashing yellow lights and a loud recorded voice saying "Cauton, flashing yellow lights". The crosswalk by E Bldg and Riverton Heights has NO lights, etc and people almost get hit umpteen times a day!! Motorists are trying to catch a long light and don't even notice that crosswalk! People for the most part using the crosswalk with nothing are mostly Seniors on walkers, wheelchairs or are handicapped in some way. Someone is going to get run over there any day now. That crosswalk is dangerous for everyone using it. We DESPERTLY need higher visability at this crosswalk with the flashing yellow light and voice like the one not far from it. If you are waiting to cross the street cars just ignore you and drive right through the crosswalk. Please help before someone gets runover!!!!!

Thank you! We are now having to blow whistles that the Fire Dept gave us to try and not be run over in the crosswalk by cars and trucks, next we will have to get Air Horns before someone gets run over

It really isn't the responsibility of thee SHAG tenant to have to blow a whistle in order to cross a street. It's the drivers responsibility to allow the pedestrian to cross without any worry of being hit. From what I've been told by lawmen, the pedestrian always has the right of way, which means that the vehicle to stop for them and render right of way to them. And without blowing a whistle.

corleone52, absolutely true! However, everyday countless people are almost getting hit by cars NOT stopping and just ignoring the crosswalk. Yesterday, I was half way across the street and a car just blew right by me, if I hadn't stopped I would have been hit. All day, everyday this is happening. We are Seniors, some on walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc. They just think they don't need to stop!

I'm sorry to hear that because I was just notified that I'm eligible for a SHAG voucher from KCHA-Section 8. I was hoping that I would be moving into a safer area for Seniors. But I won't let that stop me from my dream.

The area is very safe, just this one crosswalk. There is another one that has a button to push and yellow lights flash and a speaker that says "Yellow lights are flashing", this is what I am hoping they can put at the crosswalk I am posting about. You would love SHAG Tukwila Village, you just need extreme caution when using this one crosswalk right now! Hopefully they will do something about it, I am still waiting to hear something on it!!

Seriously !!! Been OVER 1 month and nothing on this problem? Do you not take someone nearly being run over several times a day as a PROBLEM? We blow whistles, use air horns, wear bright colored clothes trying not to be run over!! Can't believe someone does not have a few minutes to check the situation out! At least put another crosswalk sign on the median or something!! PLEASE!!!

Stay on their case Sandy! I talked to you one morning outside the Sullivan Center with your friend. They should do something about this right away before someone gets hurt. It could be because we're Senior Citizens that it can wait. They don't show much respect for our generation. Just like the law to wait until something tragic happens. Don't put away the whistles from the Fire Department.

I am not going to let this go, coreleone52!! I will go down to the Public Works Office if I have to and sit there till someone talks to me about it!! I'll give them till next week and then I am going to go directly to them and MAKE them pay attention to this!!

Well, I think I have been very patient. I understand this is not an overnight fix. But an update as to if it is really something that is being worked on or not would be great. The problem is now worse than before because the SHAG Tukwila Village Bldg E is now full. 125 residents, full, trying to cross in a crosswalk that is totally ignored by drivers. Maybe not a flashing light sign but ANY kind of a sign or something to get them to slow down would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't forgotten about you but the RRFB is not gaining momentum. Still working through it and options. The design engineers considered this issue during construction and presumed that pedestrians had the option to use either crossing and they were close together. More to follow.
