Thank you for contacting the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering. During certain times of the day the capacity of the left turns lane is exceeded and therefore in some instance (peak hours) vehicles will spill back into the through lane. This issue is common at many intersections but is for a very narrow window. In addition, the loops (detections) was damage at the time and this may have caused so delays at the intersection. The loops have since been cut and we believe that this correction assist in mitigating the queuing issues at the intersection. TE does not have any plans at the current time to extend the left turn lanes for the N-W direction. Thank you once again for bringing it to our attention.
