  I just want to add my support for potentially re-engineering this intersection. I use it exclusively on foot/by bike, to get between Depot Street and the waterfront/bike path, and it always feels dangerous and chaotic.

  I will share a notion that I personally have come to call "The sidewalk theory". A person who worked professionally on college campuses said that every time there is some kind of renovation sidewalks should never be installed and poured for at least 6 months. By then there will be very clear paths worn where staff and students will have walked of their own convenience and choice. Only once those preferred routes are identified by natural choice sidewalks that will actually be used can be poured. Without waiting that there will always be both...formally poured sidewalks and paths bare of grass. 😉

  It is sort of mind boggling that after all the time and money spent on this area that there are zero pedestrian facilities connecting the waterfront to Depot or Lake St.

  The well worn path in the grass definitely points to a need for at least a sidewalk.

  On bike, depending on which direction you're coming from, I usually find it ok just to ride with traffic in the general purpose lane, either to or from the Waterfront to Lake or Depot.

  We are pleased to share that DPW was just awarded a Transportation Alternatives Grant from the Vermont Agency of Transportation to fill this gap in the sidewalk / path network.

  We will keep this request thread updated and can share more about this project once it gets underway with VTrans.
