  • Intersection Of Howard Street / St.Paul St. / South Winooski Ave. Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
This intersection is a route to school (Edmunds) for kids in the Five Sisters neighborhood and other South End neighborhoods. This is a complicated, 5-way intersection with no Walk /Don't Walk signals. Would like to see pedestrian improvements or a crossing guard assigned.

I think "sharrows" would be a help on Colchester Ave from where the bike lane ends in front of the hospital all the way to the Winooski Bridge. A bike rider gets dumped into two lanes of traffic when the bike lane ends and needs to take the lane to keep going straight to Winooski. Once through the India House/East Ave intersection there are parked cars on the side (rider at risk of getting doored) and the street is very tight especially with all the bus traffic. A bike rider can easily maintain traffic speed on this busy road since it is downhill. If a rider leaves enough space to the car in front of them to be safe cars tend to "think" they are faster then a bike and accelerate up to 40, cross over the center line and then whip back in front of the biker and slam on their brakes even when a rider has taken the lane. There are "bikes may use full lane" signs along here but there is a lot of space between them and they tend to be ignored since they can be way off to the side behind parked cars. Getting some bike stencils every couple hundred feet down this section would help tremendously to give the driver visual cues that the bikers are allowed to be there since the sharrows will be directly in the drivers view. What can be done to make this happen? Seems like a quick, cheap and easy improvement for the time being. I have seen a huge increase in bike commuters on this section of road and also a huge increase of unsafe passes.

An smelly eyesore on a nice clean city. This reflects poorly on all of us. Clean the parking lot stairs.
  • 2 Leddy Park Road Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
Poison ivy, Leddy Park, in area between soccer fields, racket courts, upper parking lot, playground and basketball court. The area is heavily used by local families, people walk through this area, and children chase balls into poison ivy infected areas. On weekend when there are soccer games, the area is packed with children. In contrast, an area next to Leddy arena that is rarely used is overly groomed. This area needs growth of trees and brush to prevent erosion of the soil which is causing the shoreline to erode. Trees are falling into the lake. There are dangerous sand cliffs that could give way. Needs to be roped off with warning signs, and growth allowed to recover to help stabilize the bank. Meanwhile, mowing needs to be done in the area of poison ivy. A grandmother told us her grandchild had been hospitalized with ivy skin poisoning after coming to watch a soccer game. NPA and Graffiti team painted a huge mural on back of old theater and requested a few picnic tables in the area to create family-friendly atmosphere.

Crosswalk across Park St. to Battery Park is dangerous and could benefit from a flashing warning light like the ones installed along Pine St. and near Edmund's schools on Main St. Several times recently a friend and I have had cars waiting in two of the three lanes only to be almost run over by a driver not paying attention in the second of two lanes coming from the North on Park St. Cars from Battery St., North Ave. and Park St. typically do not acknowledge this established crosswalk.

Please repair the paved path between Callahan Park and the Birchcliff Parkway neighborhood. The pavement is in terrible condition. Pedestrians (many of them children!) are tripping and falling. We need a pedestrian- and bike-friendly path between the Five Sisters neighborhood and Champlain Elementary School. Thank you.

36 Walnut St Burlington, VT 05401, USA - Burlington Electric
This section of the sidewalk and green belt on Walnut st next to the community garden should be re-done. There is a whole section of the sidewalk missing that floods when it rains, and the green belt has large chunks of an old driveway in it. Please improve this area! Thank you!

802 Colchester Avenue Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
A big gap has formed which could easily cause a biker or pedestrian to tumble into fast-moving traffic. The metal joint plate covering the gap creates a dangerous surface.
  • 1-85 Ethan Allen Pkwy Burlington, VT 05408, USA - Burlington Electric
There are no bike racks anywhere near the playground. Lots of kids ride here but the only place to lock up is the trees.

Depot St should have an "Except Bicycles" sign paired with the "Do Not Enter".
