Thank you for reporting your service request to the City of Huntsville. The City Arborist inspected this issue. This is a 10 foot tall dead crape myrtle next to the road, because it presents no hazard it is the homeowner's responsibility. Please call 256-427-7499 if you'd like to speak with him directly about this issue. Your issue has been handled and we are closing your request. If you need further assistance, please let us know.
The owner will never take care of it. He has been cited by the city for building violations for years at 1727 Oakwood Avenue. Oakwood Avenue is a main road and it wouldn't hurt to have some help from Landscape Management on this issue especially since the issue is in the city's right of way and the dead tree is right next to the road.

Thank you for reporting your service request to the City of Huntsville. This tree does not present a hazard to the public and is the sole responsibility of the property owner.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
We understand your concern, Brady. The City does not remove trees from private property unless it poses an immediate threat to our constituency. Our arborist has confirmed that the tree is not a hazard; therefore, it would be up to the property owner if the tree will be removed. We encourage you to reach out to our arborist, Marc Byers, at the number provided above if you would like to discuss this further. We look forward to working with you on any future service related issues you may be having.

This dead tree is not on private property, it is in the city right of way and right next to Oakwood Avenue which is a main road.
Additionally, the run down house at this property has had a building permit for over two years. The owner never does anything. He certainly won't remove this dead tree and (again) since it is in the city right of way and right next to Oakwood Avenue it wouldn't hurt to have some help from the city, especially since the city is not making him take care of the building permit issues in a timely manner.
The manager of our Landscape Management Department went back out to this location and confirmed the tree is on private property and was planted by the homeowner at this address. The City will not be removing the tree as it poses no threat to our citizens. For your convenience, we reached out to Community Development to check the status of any notices to the home. The house meets code according to the City’s minimum housing standard ordinance. We will link to it here if you would like to read more for your information: https://library.municode.com/al/huntsville/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_CH7BUBURE_ARTVMIHOST. If you would like to discuss the condition of the property further, you can speak with an inspector with our Community Development Department at 256-427-5400.
Mayor Battle, I agree with the original poster about the issues at this property. #1: How does the dead tree being in the city easement and right next to a public road make it on private property? #2: Why has the house had a building permit posted on it for more than a year?
Brady and Carol, remember these unresolved issues at the polls next year. Mayor Battle does not treat the city equally, it's time to vote him out of office.
