Description

There is a huge pot hole on Highway 51 in front of Providence High School. It is near the border of Matthews and Charlotte line. It is in the right hand lane heading towards Matthews. It is nearly a sinkhole. Someone is going to blow a tire or break an axle in that hole.

NC 51 is a state road and the location in question is actually in the City of Charlotte, not Matthews. The concern has been passed onto NCDOT as it's their responsibility.

After a field investigation and talking to my Road Maintenance supervisor the pothole you forwarded to me from Ms. Marianne Calabria is not a pothole but three water valves grouped close together. One of the covers for the valve is as large as a sanitary sewer manhole cover and it has settled about 1-1/2". Ronald McDaniel my Road Maintenance Supervisor says that this issue was reported to CMUD, and they attempted to fix the area but didn't do a very good job. We will contact CMUD again about the needed repairs at that location, if they don't move fast enough on this issue I may have to get our District Office involved.

This still needs to be fixed and is becoming a hazard. IN order to avoid hitting it and blowing a tire, people are going around it and this in itself may cause an accident.
