Unbelievable that this much trash is thrown on the sidewalk

It was all the perishables from their busted refrigerators. An insane amount of perfectly good food.

Thanks for taking care of all the bags. I’d like to point out that trash at this location at Pearl is a constant problem. They always have trash and/or trash cans obstructing the sidewalk and forcing people to walk single file, hold the nose, and a reminder to my kids not to touch the trash. It is super annoying. Is anything going to be done about that? Thanks again.

Jason is absolutely right! It is not enough that the city takes care of the problem every time it occurs. Something has to be done so that it does not happen again. Target is not a mom and pop business. They must find a better way to dispose of their unwanted stuff!

Public Works Compliance Officers were dispatched to inspect the sidewalk outside of Target on Monday morning, based on the reports received via SeeClickFix/Commonwealth Connect on Sunday evening about the sidewalk being obstructed. Target staff informed the City that their store’s refrigeration had failed over the weekend during the heat wave, resulting in all of their perishable food spoiling. Target staff indicated that they had contacted their waste hauler to do a pick up on Sunday, but the hauler had not arrived as scheduled. The City’s focus on Monday morning was to make sure the business cleared the sidewalk obstruction/ unsanitary trash as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the waste hauler did not arrive until after 1 pm on Monday. In order to clean up any residual mess in the area as quickly as possible, the City’s sweepers were called in to clean the street and sidewalk. While Sunday's situation was extraordinary (and hopefully will not happen again) Public Works Compliance Officers have had to work with the Target Store in the past to address sanitation and access issues and, after this weekend's incident, a letter was sent to the property owner to inform them about this situation and remind them of the City code's applying to refuse storage/disposal. We will continue to work with the tenant and with the property owner to achieve a consistent improvement in their trash set out practices, and have provided them with Public Works Off-Hours Contact information should circumstances arise in the future. If residents see issues outside of normal business hours, they too can call the Dept. of Public Works at 617-349-4800 to speak with staff on duty.

Franklin Street, from the corner of Magazine towards Pearl is filthy. All sort of garbage on sidewalk and street itself. Somebody lets their dog poop every day next to the tree planted in front of 246! Can't the city send somebody to monitor the situation and fine those who litter? it would be a nice income for the city and I would not feel like I'm living in a dumpster!
