2-36 Wadsworth Street Cambridge, Massachusetts
There is an uncovered manhole in the middle of the crosswalk across Wadsworth St, at the intersection of Wadsworth St and and Memorial Drive. On the evening of 1/12/17, I was running along Memorial Drive around 6:30pm and did not notice this hole. I stepped directly into the hole while running. My leg went down into the hole to about halfway up my shin and I fell across the crosswalk. Both of my knees are now very bruised, as is my shin, and I cut my shin open when I fell in the hole. Additionally, the screen of my phone is smashed from the fall. I'm not sure how or why this manhole could have been left uncovered, but I find this to be incredibly dangerous, especially considering the fact that it was in the middle of a crosswalk. Though my leg and knees are very sore, I am lucky I wasn't injured more severely. The fact that this manhole was left uncovered is a blatant example of negligence on the part of the city and I hope that it will be fixed immediately, before any one else is injured. I hate to think what might have happened had someone more fragile than me (a physicially fit 23 year old) had fallen into this hole. I've attached a picture of the hole (taken this morning). I have photos of my leg following the incident as well, but cannot figure out how to upload additional images. I also filed a report with the Cambridge Police Department this morning.
