Another Jeep there today (10/1) for sale. Getting sick of people using my driveway as a turn around spot for this "dealer" in a residential area,.....Anything to be done by Town Inspector?

There is yet another Jeep for sale there today. Last week it was a GMC. It's a business without a doubt. People are periodically turning around in my driveway to go back and have a look. I've got kids who play in my driveway and while I do watch them I can't account for some fool driving fast down my driveway and something happening before I can act. Town of Enfield can you please do something about this?

After checking on DMV requirements for car sales on your property, there are no limits to the amount of yearly vehicles sold. Historic has no regulations on where a car can be parked on property. ZEO

So then there are no limits to cars turning around in my driveway, blocking my sightlines when I am trying to turn onto BUSY Enfield Street, a business being run out of a residential neighborhood etc. Looks like I need to make an appearance at a P+Z meeting to see if anything can be done. Or continually call the cops to report a traffic problem, unsafe road conditions etc. Boy is that a great use of our tax dollars....

This case was closed because Town staff has researched the issue and has determined that this is no zoning violation. If you believe that there is a violation of some other law or ordinance please contact the Town Manager's office at 860-253-6350. Thank you.

It's like a used car lot being run out of a house. How can that be ok?

There are no regulations, zoning or otherwise, preventing someone from selling one automobile at a time on their property.

Does this apply to any "business" should I choose to open one and run it from my house? My wife is a great baker, perhaps a pie business would fit in as well in the neighborhood. Of course we'll sell them one at a time....

Mr. Brown: There is a difference between operating a home-occupation and selling an automobile on your front lawn. There is a Town ordinance which allows for people to keep up to one unregistered vehicle on there property. And conversely we could find no ordinance restricting the sale of one motor vehicle on someone's front lawn. If that were the case we would have to cite every person in town who attempted to sell a car on their front lawn as well. It seems that your neighbor is exploiting a hole in our regulations. In order to address this, either the Town Council or PZC would have to create an ordinance that would restrict the number of vehicles that could be sold over the course of a year. Then the next issue would be enforcing such an ordinance since we have a limited number of inspectional staff who are changed with monitoring zoning, housing and property maintenance issues. While I certainly sympathize with your situation, unfortunately we have no means to address this problem under our current regulations. Thanks for your detailed response to my post. I agree with you that this is a Town Council or PZC related issue so that is where my next foray will be. And yes, I do realize that there is a difference between a home occupation type business and selling a car.....JB

certainly the Historic District Commission could enact their regulation to limit motor vehicle sales on front lawns in the district
