Tenants informed me yesterday that a contractor working on the property last june warned them (not the landlord) of possible lead paint dust while he was working on the property before he quit during the permit debacle. Also, Tenants were not notified by landlord about the work currently being done as a possible LEAD hazard exposure. Repairs underway will certainly disturb the underlying paint on this 99 year old structure. What precautions should the landlord and contractor take to insure that the tenants, neighbors, and passers by do not get exposed to LEAD dust?

I agree with the change of classification. The biggest issue is highly visible disturbed paint that has a high probability of lead content. Tenant informed me that the contractor doing the original demolition, warned the tenants about the dangers of being around the work being done. The second issue is the big pile of shingles that were buried next to his garage 10 years ago. This pile may contain asbestos. This pile was also buried on my property. It is still there.

Problems continue at the property

1) Unsightly green tarp dangles from the second floor front porch. It is a huge eye sore, has been there for months with no sign of work, and it is visible from route 5. It has the potential of reducing property values in the neighborhood.

2) Sidewalk on North side of property was only cleared 1 shovel width during the storm this week. This forces the handicap folks in wheel chairs into the street. Corner was not cleared for safe passage across route 5 using the crosswalk.

3) 3rd floor is being rented as additional living/sleeping space by second floor tenant. Note: that there is no fire escape from the third floor. It was torn down years ago. Someone could die if there is a fire at the house.

I don't think that there is much more that can be done at this point.
