Description
Every morning during rush hour at the Reston Parkway / Sunset Hills intersection, there is a significant pile up, which is to be expected. However, people make this worse but skipping the turn-lane entirely off of Reston Parkway onto Sunset Hills, by using the adjacent lane. Mind you, these lanes are separated at the end by a median / sidewalk, these people are driving around the median illegally (it’s obvious that lane is not a turn-lane) in order to skip the line in the designated turn lane. Not only is this very obviously annoying, but it’s also dangerous. I am aware of this issue when merging onto Sunset Hills; I am looking for the illegally turning cars, but other drivers who don't know about this infraction, often almost swerve into the illegally turning cars, not to mention the pedestrians have a "walk" sign and wouldn't be inclined to look for cars coming from that direction. It’s a safety issue, a traffic flow issue, and breaks the social contract of the road. Something needs to be fixed here.
