If viewers agree that this issue of more traffic lights for North Tryon is quite important, please vote to fix. Help save someone's life from the comfort of your seat in front of your computer.

I am not a mathematician, but I did measure the distance between traffic lights. Along a stretch of 1.1 miles, there are two intersections and bus stops. These intersections add traffic from side roads.
On Park Road, and on Sharon-Amity, there are pedestrian-demand flashing lights which change to red. Why aren't these possible for this stretch of road, and timed intersection lights, too. What was good for North Tryon in 1976 is no longer reasonable. With a speed limit of 45 mph, the general rate of traffic is 50 mph, or more.

The long-needed improvements farther along North Tryon from the center city are increasing the pressure on this stretch. It would seem that the control of the flow of traffic would also protect the workers at the 29/49/I-85 intersection.

Better weather, longer days, more people out on the street, and STILL nothing is being done to save lives. The new 29/49 interchange is coming along nicely (great planning on continuity of use!), but it means people are not finding another route, so the traffic is increasing, and so is the speed of cars through this area. Where is the famous Charlotte friendliness and courtesy towards its own residents?

I noted today that neither WBTV nor the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department have received notice of this issue! I hate to think of why the lives of these pedestrians along North Tryon are not worthy of the attention of the TV news nor the police department. Guess the deaths are newsworthy and an issue for police work, but until then..... Senseless deaths are ALWAYS important no matter where they take place in our city.

I'm finally home during the day and able to call 311 using the confirmation number.. A helpful person there read enough to tell me that there was no contact information available to tell me that: North Tryon is maintained by the NC Dept of Transportation. Their phone number is 704-598-6900. If YOU care about this serious issue, please add your phone call to mine.
Like many other "road" issues in this state, railroads as well, it is NOT easy to find someone who is responsible, or will take responsibility.
And so the issue continues.

Nothing visible has happened, and there have been no news stories in The Observer or on WBTV addressing this problem.
While we are waiting for the state to do something, the Char-Meck community could be supporting a public campaign for pedestrians to wear clothing that is more visible in poor lighting, and to encourage more visibility of police cars and motorcycles to affect speed.

Last night it was raining. Two young women, in dark clothing and with dark umbrellas, made it half way across the street. I was paying attention, of course, and had even turned off my radio so that I could stay focused. It was dark, and the only thing I really saw until I got closer to them was their movement as they stepped up on the median. Because of local conditions, I didn't "see" that it was two people until I got closer. If I had been driving just 5 mph faster, I might have hit them.

If you share my concern, please feel free to call and ask questions like - does anyone with clout care about this issue?!

How do I get more votes? This problem continues, and continues, and continues. Nearly 685 people have viewed this situation, but only 12 people have voted. IF YOU VIEW this critical issue as important, please vote for more attention to be given to this problem.

What's there to say. Even more businesses being added to this stretch of North Tryon, increasing local traffic at ALL times of the day and evening. Nothing is happening. Nothing. If you happen to read this and know of another route to follow to protect innocent pedestrians, please act.

Charlotte should be ashamed, and the people who have viewed this issue and done nothing - well, you could vote, and if you have some power, you could get behind this issue and DO SOMETHING.
Now there's the big hoopla about light rail to UNC-Charlotte. Admirable that the people of Charlotte are thinking ahead. In the meantime, however, PEDESTRIANS CROSSING NORTH TRYON ARE USUALLY RISKING THEIR LIVES! Speed limits continue at 45 mph in many very pedestrian-heavy stretches, there are only a couple of crosswalks to alert drivers who might want to slow down, if not yield to a pedestrian, crosswalks at intersections are not well-marked, if present at all, and nothing is happening. I can't believe that the people who drive up and down North Tryon don't care about other Charlotteans.
At the least, couldn't there be some kind of media-supported campaign to ask drivers to be extra alert while the situation is being worked out? Couldn't the speed limit be dropped to 35 mph from The Square past UNC-Charlotte?

As the construction for the light rail continues, I do not see how pedestrian traffic is going to improve in safety and more cross points.

The light rail is nearly finished, and it appears that there are a few more protected crossing points.
