I agree that the new blacktop is nice. However, when the freezing temperatures hit, this will be a sheet of ice at the bottom of a hill where vehicles must turn.

Agreed that this is going to be an issue in the winter. Also I am not sure what is the deal with the placement of the catch basins? There is non for the first couple of properties closest to Dudley and we are located on the lower side of the road so now our yard just flood from the run off.

No structural changes have been made since this issue was posted. We do see some markings on Thistle indicating something may be in the works to capture the water before it overflows the drain on the south side of Thistle and the east side of Heather. We will wait to see what happens.

This may not be on the top of your list with everything else going on and no rain to cause a problem right now. This winter will be when this issue will become a safety hazard.

No this is still open. We suggest you drive by during a major rain not just a sprinkle. The real issue will be in the winter when the water draining over the catch basin on the East side of Heather flows over the road to the catch basin on the West side in front of 59 Heather Lane.

During the last rain storm the surface water crossed over Heather Lane. Later in the evening the temperature dropped below freeing causing the water to freeze on the road surface.. When the school buses approach the intersection of Heather and Thistle they cannot avoid the ice. If vehicles come down Thistle they will have difficulty stopping at the Stop sign and may run into children waiting for the bus or crossing traffic. We have a large population of children in this neighborhood, as you know.

Due to the current snow storms, the "water/ice over road" condition continues to be an issue. Thank goodness, no accidents, yet.

May need to wait until the Spring, but this issue really needs to be fixed. The storm drain is in the wrong spot, yielding it barely effective.

Heather Lane has more drainage problems than the one mentioned here. This issue should remain open until an actual solution is determined and acted upon. We will continue to monitor this issue until resolved.

Excellent point. Needs to be fixed so they can stop using so much salt to compensate for all the ice in the Winter. Some of the damage to lawns is still evident.

This issue has been open for almost two years with no resolution. Why can't another catch basin be put in just a little north and east of the one already there but lower than the road edge to catch the bulk of the water coming down Thistle? The new basin could be connected to the existing one without disturbing the road surface. In the winter the snow plows pile the snow up at that same point; therefore, it would also help with the melting snow..

It's quite sad. This is how it goes. They don't care and will give you nothing but a run around. It is extraordinary. Yet the busiest commission at the Town of Wilton is Inland Wetlands because they are running all over town fining people $2,000 or more for not asking for a permit... i.e. to cut down dead and dangerous trees, like Ash Trees, which are dead and diseased throughout the region. It's obviously dangerous to have dead trees looming. Maybe they will do something to resolve issues like yours when someone is killed. There are countless unresolved issues all over town. There is no excuse. These tickets sit open for months, and so-called resolutions are anything but.

This issue has been open since October 2019. I don't think this is anywhere near a top priority until something major happens. Our comment about the ice that forms at that location is a far worse danger to life and limb for the families who either live on Heather and Thistle Lanes or travel on those roads. That intersection is one of the school bus stops for a number of children in this close knit neighborhood. There is a lawsuit just waiting to happen. My guess is that is what will trigger action and that will be too bad for all of us.

Related to this issue, we saw a significant increase in the amount of road salt used over the winter. I believe this was to compensate for this ice issue. The increased salt has affected the edges of the downhill lawns because the salt has killed the grass.

Based on markings on the street and the presence of equipment it appears something is going to happen.

We will watch closely during heavy rain and icing conditions to see if the major work by the highway department fixed the problem. We appreciate their efforts.
