Yes. It's been unpleasant to visit all the other stores behind the alley because of the smell.

The restaurant at this location often uses a power washer to clean the grease from their equipment and dumps cleaning water right onto the service street by their back door. Because the water is not draining, it smells disgusting and creates a dangerous, slippery sidewalk. Also have seen more rats in the past year.

Thanks to anonymous for sending me this link. I am the owner of this property and unfortunately I have been completely unable to convince my tenants that run Le Culture Cafe to stop dumping their greasy water in the back on the street. I have contacted both the Health Dept. and Building Safety Dept. but both departments have not been helpful in anyway. Again, my apologies. We ran a restaurant there for several years and never once had this issue. "thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself"

That sounds about right. Everyone knows that you have to pay off the right people in Detroit to get anything done. All restaurants need to be held accountable for this disregard of others. But why isn't there a city drain?

I’ve already reported this a few months ago to no avail. It’s disappointing nothing has happened to it since then.

The poor drainage is an issue by itself, but, as others have already commented, the problem is compounded by the unsanitary practices of the restaurant tenant. The constant puddle of water along the curb/gutter has a permanent milky/buttery film over it from the kitchen floor being powerwashed directly onto the sidewalk. The smell is revolting, and there are several businesses and residences whose entrances are nearby. There are a dozen other filthy practices coming from that restaurant which make the street and sidewalk a nauseating experience. They operate all day long with the kitchen doors wide open to the alley where a dumpster (whose lid is always open) is less than 7 feet away from food prep surfaces. If a restaurant's kitchen is required to have air curtains, doors, windows, or screens at the front-of-house to stop bugs & rodents from entering, how is it allowable that the kitchen's back door can just be open to a street all day long? The restaurant operates as if its kitchen extends about 15-feet beyond its back wall and into the street. Employee vehicles parked halfway onto the sidewalk in areas where "no parking" is posted. Employees smoking in the open doorway of the kitchen. The list goes on and on.

Lived next to the restaurant for a short stint, sinkhole was getting worse and worse with the water and grease getting mixed together to make a horrible stench throughout the particular part of the sidewalk. Started to see rats more often as well since the puddle was directly next to a dumpster.

Unsanitary practices from the restaurant (spraying down all their grease + garbage disposal) is pooling up in the back here -- bringing rats and I imagine new breeds of bacteria unseen to this planet. I used to live and park back here. This needs to be taken care of.
