The intersection isn't that bad at all. Drivers behave very civilly and yield to other motorists in an efficient manner, unable to be reproduced by a traffic light. It's a slow area during rush hour, but certainly no slower than a traffic light would make it. A signal would cause congestion and waste all our our time and gasoline for all but a few hours of the day.
I thought I remember reading something that both townships think the other should pay for the improvements, and nothing will get done because the intersection basically lies within 2 townships/counties. PennDOT/PA has zero jurisdiction since it's not a state route and won't do anything either.
And I agree, at least drivers do not block other cars from turning when they can't proceed anyway. But a traffic signal is sorely needed.
Fixing this intersection would cost millions. Probably have to buy two houses, move them, shift both roads so they meet and thne rebuild the storm sewers/curbs and add sidewalks. It is slow at rush hour but most everyone is courteous.
