I can speak about the red plastic bags full of advertisements from the Globe: The City Manager has made three separate calls to the Direct Advertisers over the past three weeks to try to discuss this, and has received no response. This kind of commercial littering is being addressed, but unfortunately it doesn't progress quickly.

There is a guy that walks up and down Chestnut St with a big gym bag leaving these red bags on our doorsteps. He tends to go around on friday's at around 6:30-7am

Richie, thank you very much for commenting on this current issue. I'm very happy to see that city management is on top if the issue as well.

On anothe topic related to littering, do you know if there are any plans to disperse the solar compactor trash recepticals throughout the city? The majority of them seem to be located within just a few blocks on Broadway closer to the center of the city. The waterfront has Zero trash cans, except for two in the park. I think the residents would appreciate some sort of trash can to help keep our neighborhood clean.

I believe the DPW Director has addressed this in another post, but to paraphrase: The Big Belly solar compactor units that you currently see are part of a pilot program, so you're seeing them clustered in the area of the city that faces the biggest littering challenges. After they are evaluated, then consideration will be given to expanding the program and possibly dispersing more of them throughout the city.

It would be great if people really cared what their neighborhood looked like. But as always in Chelsea, dump it here and expect someone else to pick it up.

"Thanks for the report. Yes, this is a constant problem. We are down there regularly cleaning, and will continue to do so. We are also creating a new trash and cleaning program and will attempt to hold landlords accountable. In terms of the Globe advertisments, I have personally called three times and received no assistance from them. Therefore, we are adopting a new ordinance regarding sales circulars and will then begin fining them for every violation."
