The on-ramp from Rural/Longwood onto the westbound Whitman Street bridge is in desperate need of repair. Once you're on the actual bridge the road is fine, if you can make it without getting stuck in one of ruts.

I've told people for years that the Whitman to 6th St curve is the worst in the city. In the 20 years I have lived in downtown rockford that piece of road has never been repaired. There is absolutely no way to avoid the potholes either.

WELL, construction season has begun, yet it seems as if this road may go another year without being fixed... I wonder if it is job security for the the mechanics who work on the plows with broken blades, or the mechanics in town who have to fix all the bent rims and alignment issues on our cars. I just dont get it. Already they are fixing roads that are have minor issues, while this road has major issues and there is nothing being done to it... I think all of us would be happy with just a new black top surface, even if they cant finish all the repairs that really need to be done to it!

Before spending money to fix Auburn/Main intersection ~ focus on this area. This entire interchange area is so bad that ripping it out and replacing it with gravel would almost be an improvement!!!!!! Why is this extremely traveled interchange not been dealt with? This is not something that just happened over night, it has been decaying for years......

Considering that the article you posted the link to was not written until July, there is no way to have known they might actually fix this road. But while reading the article, this portion of road was not in this years, budget, and only came to be due to other projects coming in under budget. Maybe it was this web site and the people that expressed their concerns that helped this project happen! I would like to think that maybe the government officials of Rockford are finally listening!

Oops! Sorry Holly, that was actually directed at Angie (the comment directly below mine.) I agree the road is horrible. It will be interesting to see how the whole this shakes out.

DeadPirate ~ I did not see this article when I posted my comment. I see the area is scheduled for work. However, from the sounds of it, not until fall (2 months to start and 2 months to finish) hmmm sounds like not done until November??? That is if there are no delays!!!!

It will be interesting to see how this work is accomplished and if all the roads in the interchange will be tackled. This is by no means a simple task, there are many roads involved. Seems to me that by the time the fix is in, my 2007 car will be ready for the demolition derby!!!

Looks like work on this interchange is finally underway. I cant wait until it is done! Thanks to the crews that are out there working on it every day, rain or shine!

Ah, but is this repair a temp fix or long lasting? Scrapping the top coat off a few inches or more still shows the areas where patch repairs were made. I believe this road warranted a complete re-do. However, for now this is better than nothing.
