This road has not been resurfaced since Dunwoody was founded. The gutter portion of the mountable curb was paved over years ago, reducing the curb height. This reduces the flow capacity of the curb, allowing runoff to spill over the curb during heavy rainfall. No significant erosion was observed. No corrective work is necessary at this time.

I met with the home owner Monday and explained the cause of road runoff overtopping the curb. When Dekalb County paved the road sometime before Dunwoody was founded, they paved over the concrete gutter, reducing the effective curb height and gutter capacity.

The City will attempt to remove the asphalt from the gutter. This may be difficult to do without damaging roadway pavement if the asphalt is tightly adhered to the concrete gutter.

A prioritized work order is in place for this issue. Repairs will take place according to their priority. Thank you for your patience.

The asphalt has been removed from the gutter. The repair should allow the gutter to function properly and minimize the likelihood of heavy flows spilling over into the yard. Work is complete.
