Description

I am writing about the traffic light at the intersection of Palisado Ave. and Pierson Lane. When this traffic light was replaced a few years ago I noticed that the induction loop traffic detector on the Pierson Lane side was considerably past the stop line and nearly in the intersection. What I feared is exactly what is happening. For traffic traveling north on Palisado Ave. and making a left-hand turn onto Pierson Lane, cars cut the corner ever so slightly and drive over the induction loop traffic detector and turn the light red for the remaining traffic heading north on Palisado. This happens just about every time a car makes a left-hand turn onto Pierson. Traffic is stopped needlessly on north and south bound Palisado with no one exiting Pierson. While this really isn’t an issue during rush hour traffic, it does matter during the remaining times of the day. I have been stopped many, many times because the car in front of me has cut the corner and tripped the light while there is no traffic at all exiting Pierson. I would suggest either moving the induction loop traffic detector or removing that one section all together, or, depending on how intelligent the system is, have the light not trip when the field is broken only for a few seconds as in when cars cut the corner. In other words, disruption of the induction loop for 5 seconds or less would not trip the light but disruption longer than 5 seconds would. That way traffic exiting Pierson will stop at the red light for over 5 seconds and trip the light while cars cutting the corner would not, leaving the light green for north and south bound traffic on Palisado. Your attention to the matter is appreciated and I’d be happy to explain this further if necessary.
