Description

Good morning thank you for your time looking into this concern for me. Over the past few years the traffic on Kendall Ave is increasing. We noticed a large increase after Mahar Highway went from 2 lanes down to 1 lane from Pearl St to the railroad tracks. Not sure why tho happened but it has had a significant impact. I think it’s a way for commuter to feel like they’re abounding sitting a traffic light for a couple signal cycles. This has made Kendall Ave a cut through street

Now with the compost site open we have additional traffic that travels at a speed much greater the 25mph. Vehicles coming from Plain headed to Pearl accelerate until the reach 44 Kendall Ave then have to brake to make the corner at 20 Kendall Ave. Traffic coming in either direction usually cuts the corner so they don’t have to decelerate as early on the street. Several years ago I asked the mayor to look into this or to add the speed bumps, similar to Walnut St by the entrance to the Softball fields. Unfortunately this suggestion never came to reality with the multi step process the resident was required to do. I understand these would need to be removed in the winter for proper snow removal.

I don’t believe a major traffic study is needed to understand the issue. If someone comes out in a weekend day to see the way traffic moves up and down the street they will gather the data to understand our concerns.

Recommendations made previously (not all were implemented)
5 month traffic study needed to wait for appropriate funding this did not happen
Install signs at both ends of the street restricting truck traffic, completed with some effect
Hosting a community event at Matalina Park handing out hot dogs and chips. Never happened
Placing a Radar sign board posting the speed the driver is currently going. Promote awareness. needed the traffic study, never happened.

Kendall Ave is a small street when you consider the number of houses located here (9 Houses). We are unique in the sense we have a state road at one end Grove St and a major town street Pearl. A commuter can turn on to plain St (no houses are located on this portion of Plain) at Grove St, then after approximately 1/8 of a mile Plain turns into Kendall where Plain takes a right.

I am happy to discuss with anyone or to have someone come to my house to observe the traffic flow.

Please feel free to call me at 781–589–6128

Thank you for your time.
