Description

Auburn high school is a really great and convenient location for kids to pick up lunches currently and during the summer. There are at least 50 kids who walk or ride their bikes to this location every day Monday through Friday to get lunch. Also, since the stay-at-home order began, there are more people out walking their dogs, bicycling with their kids and pushing strollers on Main Street and on the grounds of the high school and elementary school then ever before. It's great! The only problem is that the cars are speeding down Main Street now that there is no high school traffic to slow them down. As the stay-at-home order has lengthened, the cars are getting faster and faster. I live right across from the high school, and I fear that a child making the crossing to the high school is going to get hit one of these days. It would be good to put up one of those radar speeding signs or solar speed signs on either side of the high school so that drivers could check their speed and slow down. Also, put crossing flags at the cross walks for the kids to use, so they can get the attention of the drivers. It really is a tragic accident waiting to happen. But the number of people the lunch program has brought out, who are just walking and biking around the neighborhood is tremendous. A real change and a nice one!
