Description

I am reaching out for help on a very frustrating situation. My neighbors and I have been up against the County/State in desperate need of help on maintaining our terrible dirt road in Lincoln County. The road is so bad that the mail carriers, meals on wheels and handicap transportation are refusing to come down the road (and we do have several disabled people living here). A neighbor told me she even seen an ambulance having a hard time getting to their call. As far as the mail goes, I have personally had packages stolen because the carriers have left them at the top of the road laying by the mailboxes. There are parts that cars will drag and you need four-wheel drive to make it through all the mud when it rains and snows. I can't even recall how many phone calls I have made to the county in the last 10 years and I haven't had any luck. We have turned in several petitions only to be told that any subdivision started after 1975 would not be considered unless we had the proper ditch lines cut in and then gravel brought in before they would take over the maintenance. Well, the road is about 3/4 mile long and would be nearly impossible for the 15 families that live here to afford those kinds of repairs. NOW the county is telling us the road has to be paved before they will take it over. I'm sorry but if we could afford to do all that, we would NOT need their help anyway. Also, despite the horrendous road conditions, as soon as you pull onto the road you are looking at a deserted trailer with busted out windows, appliances sitting out on the front porch, a fence that is falling down and a yard full of trash. The county was good enough to send someone out to look at it but we haven't seen any clean up in progress. Further on down the road you will find another deserted trailer with lots of trash and a ragged out motor home someone is living in. Once again, I know the county has been out to inspect it but no clean up. I just don't quite understand how the state can give someone a ticket for throwing out a piece of trash but can do nothing about a yard full of trash with these outrageous living conditions! I have attached a picture (would love to post all of them but only had room for one) but without actually coming out to see for yourself you can't possibly get the full effect. As hard working tax payers I'm sure you can understand the frustration we have. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! We are located on Polo Trail which branches off to Branchview and Knollwood Lane in Lincolnton.
