Description

I am an employee at Edina Super Target. Due to the nature of this report, I wish to remain anonymous.

Employees at Edina Super Target have been informed the store will not be enforcing the city’s masking regulation (Emergency Regulation 2020-02). The reasons given by management were (1.) Target does not want employees to be recorded telling customers to wear face masks and (2.) Target wants to continue to receiving business from customers who choose not to wear masks.

Since the masking regulation went into effect on 7/6, I have observed Target continue to allow several individuals to enter and shop at the store without face mask coverings. Management has informed employees to ignore these customers. Many employees have voiced their safety concerns posed by unmasked guest to management and have only been offered to take a leave of absence. For many of Target’s employees, months without pay is not financially an option. Target failing to obey the city’s masking regulation creates a hazard for not only it’s employees but the community as a whole.

Target continuing to allow individuals to shop without masks is a clear violation of Section 2 of the city’s masking ordinance that went into effect 7/6, exacerbates a health and safety hazard in the city of Edina, and creates precedent for the city’s other businesses to disregard the masking ordinance.
