@WrongWay Trains in residential areas typically have "quiet zones". This should be made into a quiet zone. These zones have additional safeguards that allow them to pass without having to (by law) blast their horns). SF does this for the CalTrain. Why Emeryville can;t do this is beyond me.
Yes please address this, it is very disruptive. Train horns blasting all the time through odd hours in the night and very, very early mornings such as 3am.
Yeah, this is really, really disruptive. Why has the city not addressed this yet? This is ridiculous. YEARS now. The fix is so simple: install a pedestrian barrier/bar that goes down at each sidewalk, where pedestrians have access or just block them completely! For example on 65th, put a barrier there. Then on 65th, close it completely to pedestrians and so forth....make pedestrians ONLY cross at one location to limit costs to installing this solution. WTF Emeryville city council. Get it together! >:-o
Anyone else notice that the horns have gotten LOUDER the past few days? It’s like they turned the volume down for the summer & now it’s back up again. Insanely loud at all hours of the night.
Absolutely agree and the horn blasting has only gotten worse over the last several days. The city council should be voted out since they are not addressing this in a timely manner nor as per the law.
It's pretty excessive even by "normal" horn honking standards. When is the city going to do something about this? I agree with another person's comment that I saw: we should vote the city council out if they can't/won't take action. It's super disruptive to everyone.
Could we please have someone from the city respond to these comments on this forum? This is absolutely unacceptable. Emeryville residents are sick and tired of having to put up with this excessive noise.
WHERE ARE CITY OFFICIALS ON THIS RESPONSE?!
Are there any positions/insights on the hotels and how they are addressing the problems of excessive train noise??
If we can leverage local business, perhaps with their weight being thrown in and the damage it certainly must be doing to their businesses perhaps city officials will finally listen. It's unacceptable that the city nor its officials have responded to ANY of these complaints/comments.
Yeah this is BS. The horn blasting is ridiculous. It;s beyond excessive. Why can't the city get its $hit together and address this? This has to be one of the most useless city councils in the Bay Area. If the City of SF can have quit train zones all through 4th and King, how come Emeryville can't? Get it together!
Thank you for reporting. The issue is currently out of control for the City of Emeryville. The City is undertaking a Quiet Zone Safety Improvement project at the crossings that will begin construction in 2022. Completion of the project will allow the City to request for train horns to be quieted for most normal train crossing activities. The construction of the project and approvals at the state level may take a few years to implement. The project is discussed periodically during "CIP Updates" during our Transportation Committee. Please see this link for more details to join/view one of these meetings: https://www.ci.emeryville.ca.us/110/Transportation-Committee
