This is at the intersection of Mythwood and south Memorial Parkway . There is narrow residential street that is parallel to the Parkway and that connects to Mythwood at the photo. There is about two car lengths between the narrow street intersection and the Parkway.
There is a small sign facing west on Mythwood telling drivers to not block the intersection, however many drivers don’t pay attention and/or pull too far into the intersection. When this happens vehicles turning onto Mythwood from the Parkway and need to immediately turn left onto the parallel street can’t so they stop and this causes traffic behind them to stop and backing up traffic on the Parkway.
Our thought here was to put a line on the pavement at the “DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION “ sign to visually indicate where drivers east bound on Mythwood should hold if there isn’t enough space to allow the intersection to stay clear.
This subdivision is growing and this intersection (with the traffic light) is heavily used. We are concerned that there is going to be a serious wreck at this intersection just because some driver didn’t hold where they should have.
Thank you for contacting the City the City of Huntsville. Traffic Engineering installed additional signage in/around October 2020 that advised drives not to block intersection. TE crews have inspected the signs and determined that the signage is still up and visible. Given that the signs are in place, unfortunately, there is not much that we can do as it pertains to additional signs. We would advise that you contact HPD if you believe that the issue persists during specific hours of the day, so that they can provide targeted enforcement. Lastly, we advise that all drivers adhere to all traffic control devices.
