Is there any update on this request? I have been in contact with Andrew and Jennifer. This is their response:
1. The City currently does not install flashing pedestrian crossing signs because studies show that drivers become accustomed to them and they lose effectiveness. You have probably seen Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), or user-actuated flashing pedestrian crossing signs, installed throughout the city. However, please note that RRFBs are currently reserved for locations adjacent to parks, schools, and transit hubs. To help improve the visibility at this location, we can look into installing curb extensions. Curb extensions shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians, slow turning vehicle speeds, and increase drivers’ visibility of pedestrians waiting to cross the street.
