Description
The traffic lanes on Balboa Avenue between Kearny Villa Road and Ruffin Road were repaved in late 2013, but the bike lanes were left unpaved. The construction crew even repainted the white lines that now separate the smooth road from the bike lane. The bike lane is full of cracks, re-paving jobs, and potholes. It is a serious hazard to cyclists and to drivers because cyclists swerve to avoid the obstacles. Can we please have the bike lane repaved?

I spoke with the Resident Engineer of Field Engineering who oversaw the paving project. He said that the city initially included bike lanes 2013 repaving order, but the paving crew found the concrete bike lanes to be too difficult to repave. As a result, the city removed the bike lanes from the work order.
Bike lanes should not be optional, and the asphalt patches added in March are not sufficient. As shown in the attached image, the road is still in terrible shape. The entire bike lane needs to be repaved from Kearny Mesa Road to Ruffin Road.
