For several days the water in my home has smelled disgusting. The city says the problem is confined to one street. I live three plus miles away, and mine stinks too!
My water also has a horrible smell to it and the hotter it gets the worse it smells. It also has an awful taste to it. I live at 165 Cheshire Road,South Meriden
When this happened three years ago, the town denied there was a problem. After several months there was a 'Thank you' published in the Record - Journal. The thanks came from the (then) Mayor. But no one would even admit there WAS a problem when I tried to report it several times.
Supposedly the issue is fixed, according to the town. However, I believe I detected the odor again today, Dec. 16. If the smell persists, I will raise the issue again. Both of our local TV channels are very interested, and one has already covered the story.
At least the city WAS finally forced to admit that there is a major problem with the water treatment plant.......
This is the response in another thread from LK.

The City tried to bring Broadbrook reservoir back on line again. The tests on the water indicated the algae issue had been resolved, but that does not seem to be the case. We have taken the reservoir off line again as of last Friday and begun clearing lines where problems have been reported. "
The water still is not fixed. It smells fine for a time, and then the foul odor keeps returning. I'm disgusted that the water authority has been able to get away with this. They don't seem to have the ability to fix it!
Agreed.
So sick of dealing with this. Its not very helpful to feel like your talking to a brick wall.
We have been complaining for so long. To add insult to injury, they are charging us more to pump in this swamp water!
The problem seems to be fixed - temporarily. It is time for the town to plan a permanent fix! Our water bills are higher than those of any of the surrounding towns, yet we are unable to drink the water for months at a time.
The city has now voted to spend 69 million dollars to revamp the two high schools. But I haven't heard anything about fixing the water in the long term.
Well, it's August again - and the odor is back. My friend first reported it on Westfield Rd two weeks ago, and now the smell is creeping back into my water on Lowe Ave. again. This is a HUGE problem, to have the same situation cropping up year after year. We pay high water bills in Meriden, and yet we seem to be treated like second class citizens. I'm beginning to become disgusted with the whole town government.....
We have completed a pilot studt for a modification to the treatment plant.DEP approval and funding is being pursued, in the meantime, the reservoir was treated with copper sulfate and more well water is being mixed in. Contact the water dept. With your address to have the lines in your area flushed.
That is all fine, but the water still smells. Maybe the odor isn't quite as bad, but you still can't drink the water. It's very sad that a city which is going to spend AT LEAST $69 million updating two high schools has to "pursue" funding for clean water. It's no wonder that Meriden tied with Bridgeport last year in Connecticut Magazine as being the least desirable city in the state in which to reside. Sad.........
IT'S BACK!! With the bad water having been gone for two years, I had to once again spit out a drink of tap water I took yesterday morning. The lines in my area were flushed a few weeks ago, so I guess I could assume something is wrong with the water supply again. I just paid a $492 water bill (I'd had a leak, but wasn't informed until three months after it was fixed) earlier this month, and to say I'm disgusted would be a terrible understatement!
