    Hello -

In MetCouncil's April 2 Southwest LRT construction newsletter, it was announced that Excelsior Blvd and Blake Road would have closures starting on April 5th. Further, detour maps were provided in the newsletter. I'm very concerned with the amount of traffic and traffic speed on Belmore Lane and Maloney Ave as people cut through the neighborhood to avoid the Excelsior Blvd and Blake Road closures and detours. People use Belmore Lane and Maloney Ave to avoid the detour and access Highway 169 at Lincoln Drive.

A traffic and speed increase on these roads occurred with previous road closures due to SWLR and Blake Road construction. My children walk to/from the bus along these roads and use the roads to ride bikes with other children.

Would you please consider installing temporary stop signs along Belmore Lane and Maloney Ave for traffic calming. Otherwise, would there be other measures to implement to reduce the amount of traffic and traffic speeds on Belmore Lane and Maloney Ave as people avoid the detours?

    Thank you, Brian

    Hello -

With SW LRT construction closing or partial closures on Excelsior Blvd and/or Blake Rd, many drivers are cutting through the Presidents neighborhood. Many drivers are driving very fast on Belmore Lane and Maloney Drive to access Highway 169 at the Lincoln Drive ramps. Also, the Excelsior Blvd traffic detour and bus route go through the northwest corner of the Presidents neighborhood behind the SuperValu buildings.

My children walk to their bus stop at the intersection of Belmore Lane and Griffit St. Vehicles drive so fast on Belmore Lane as they are walking and waiting. I'm very concerned for their safety, particularly as it stays darker later into morning.

Can the cities of Edina and Hopkins add stop signs, patrols (increased presences), warning signs, and other measures to clam traffic and reduce vehicle speeds?

I realize that construction will proceed for a couple more years and I hope that some of the aforementioned measures can be implemented throughout construction. Please assist with getting ahead of this issue.

    Thank you
