It's 10 am on Tuesday Aug 30. TRASH on Greenwich Ave was picked up quite some time ago, but has NOT been picked up on Second Street, between Greenwich and Howard Ave, and I don't hear the truck in the neighborhood. (Recycling was picked up a while ago.)

Final street sweeping was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2 for Route 13 (Hill South/City Point). However, there was no night-before robocall ("Clunk. Stand by for an important message...") and no paper signs were posted. AND there was no street sweeping. Will this be rescheduled?

No-towing policy fail. Tenants know that cars no longer are being towed AND that the $100 fine is not being enforced. So this mess on Greenwich Ave (near First St) and other messes like it up and down Greenwich Ave (and likely all over New Haven) will sit there until next April. And for this non-service we pay some of the highest property taxes in CT.

The left side of Eddy's has been open to the elements since at least early July. The particle board in photo only was added last week and, as you can see, does not seal the building. Therefore, before Eddy's reopens, the Health Dept needs to inspect for rodents AND for expired food.

Because the later addition to Eddy's has been completely torn down, it would seem that the owner needs a zoning variance to rebuild, e.g. concerning setback, and parking. Could City Plan and/or Building Dept comment please? Thanks.

No towing policy fail. I notice that the city does not ticket cars parked illegally during street sweeping. Consequently large sections of streets go un-swept. There was no real challenge to the implementation of this policy, because when a city is run by a single political Party for over half a century, there’s no real dialogue, and therefore no real incentive to improve ANYTHING: dirty streets, growing crime, mediocre school system, etc. Just keep the Party donors happy, so we can maintain the status quo. Notice those long-obsolete signs posting the TWICE a month sweeping schedule? That was done away with many years ago. And of course we never got an explanation why street sweeping was completely suspended last summer due to COVID. Street sweepers spread COVID? Perhaps the next step will be to reduce sweeping to every other month. I hope then at least they’ll ticket cars, so we’re getting SOMETHING for our excessively-high taxes. Sigh…

On July 29 the Building Dept. shut down Eddy's due to collapsed roof. HOWEVER the shop owner continues to do business illegally via the back door, which is in a somewhat secluded alley. The business owner needs to be fined (or arrested?) and LCI needs to board up the rear entrance. This is a public hazard.

Eddy’s Food Centre (on Howard Ave, at corner of Second St) was shut down last week (by LCI? Or by Building Dept?) until “repairs” are made. Left side of building has caved in. Building Inspector needs to do a THOROUGH inspection of the building--from basement to attic. My “unofficial assessment” is that the building appears to be in imminent danger of collapse and should be torn down. Please do a thorough inspection to ensure public safety. Thanks!

grey Chevy , no marker plates, still has parking ticket from last week, also was ticketed $100 last month due to it being in the way for April street sweeping. Street sweeping is tomorrow/ Wednesday May 26. Please remove so sweeper doesn't miss this spot--yet again. It's across from 78 Second St (between Howard and Greenwich Aves).
