There are major problems along the Georgia avenue corridor with double parked vehicles causing morning rush-hour congestion in the southbound lanes. In the past two weeks on my bus route I have witnessed dozens of vehicles, often without drivers present, double parked and/or parked in rush hour no parking zones in the stretch between Upshur Street and Columbia Road, often leaving only a single travel lane open during peak traffic, causing significant delays for thousands of commuters for the convenience of a few. Over this period I have witnessed construction vehicles, taxicabs, a school bus, private vehicles and in one case a tractor trailer making a morning delivery while double parked, parked in a rush hour no parking zone, or partially impeding a travel lane. Of particular concern are areas in front of the Wendy's at Georgia Avenue and Randolph Street and the grocery store construction site at the same intersection. I recommend greater traffic/parking enforcement resources allocated to the area during rush periods beyond the simple presence of officers giving "move-along" orders to offending drivers, which I have noted to be effective only momentarily. Recommend immediate ticketing and impoundment of offending vehicles until offending drivers get the message that a rush-hour main artery is not the time or place to block traffic while running personal errands. Would gladly deal with occasional traffic hold-ups for towing in the short term to greatly reduce the numbers of double-parked vehicles in the long term.
