Following the repaving of Powell Street between Christie Avenue and Highways 580W/80E, the newly painted lane stripes have created some confusion among drivers and led to near crashes most mornings. When exiting the Hwy 580W/80E off ramp onto Powell Street, the far right lane was re-striped to turn right into the far right lane of Powell Street, not the two far right lanes of Powell Street. The middle lane can turn onto any of the other Powell Street lanes. Unfortunately, many drivers in the far right off ramp lane turn onto Powell Street into the second lane from the right. For those drivers in the middle off ramp lane who follow the lane striping that allows them to turn into the second lane from the right, the far right lane drivers nearly crash into their vehicle's passenger side. I'm conflicted about how else to address this issue. I follow the lane striping rules and prepare for impact if I use the middle off ramp lane onto Powell Street. If I use the far right lane, I'd have to violate the lane striping to enter the second lane from the right during peak commute periods. This morning was more stressful as a large commercial truck used the far right off ramp lane and immediately turned into the second right lane on Powell Street despite all the vehicles in the middle off ramp turn lane. Either re-stripe the lane to how it was painted before the re-paving or set up better instructions to avoid these potential crashes each morning commute period. Thank you.

A small animal that appears to be a dog is dead on the roadway. The exact location is the intersection of the 580E off ramp for Seminary/Highway 13 and the left turn onto the city street under the Highway 580 over ramp that takes you to the Highway 13 onramp. In other words, the first left turn immediately after exiting 580E at the Seminary/Highway 13 exit and well before reaching Seminary Avenue.

The newspaper distribution boxes on the sidewalk next to the bus stop have not been in use for months. They are an eye sore given their state: broken, graffiti and rusting. The two newspaper companies need to remove these boxes if they will not fill them nor repair them as intended. The City of Oakland doesn't need additional eye sores in areas that are making an effort to improve their image.
