Intersection has a serious problem, 70% of the people ignore the stop signs and people also speed all the time on Konner. Been fighting this for almost 3 years.

Kyle - you are welcome, but ir's my job.
Hopefully this all works as from what I understand there is not much else we can do save having an officer spend a lot of time
policing the intersection, and we really can't do that to any great extent.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and take action, it is really appreciated. Yesterday the painting was completed and the stop ahead signs were placed about 2 weeks ago. I also noticed an officer on the street last week, I believe it was Thursday, watching the intersection. I will eventually get you some video of the intersection.

Jim: We will be installing "Stop Ahead" signs on Cheryl and East Cheryl with "Stop Ahead" painted on the road surface opposite each sign and "Stop" painted on the pavement surface by each stop line. We had to order the stencils to paint the words on the pavement so it may take a couple of weeks to complete. This is about all Engineering and DPW can do with this situation. Tony

Kyle - I have read thru the e-mail string below. Impressive indeed (not!).

I can easily see your frustration, as I would be as well.

I understand your suggestions, but there appears to be obstacles to implementation.
From prior experiences I know speed bumps can not be placed near an intersection.

Give me a few days to 'work the system'. I am thinking that at least a few more road signs,
including a couple of Dangerous Intersection & 'Children Playing' can't hurt.

In the meantime if you get a chance to video tape for an hour or 2 that would be terriffic.

Mayor,

As you can see from the below email trail I feel I have been more than patient trying to get this serious issue resolved. I started bringing this issue to the attention of the township back in May of 2008 and still there is not a permanent solution in place to remedy a very serious and dangerous situation.

I can't say nothing has been done but I can say not enough has been done. Yes there was a speed sign placed down the road, yes on occasion an officer will sit three or four homes away from the intersection or Konner and Cheryl and wait for speeding vehicles but the response from Rich Cook and the lack of responses and action from your predecessor is downright insulting.

I have been holding off on sending you this email hoping I would be able to possibly video tape the intersection but the cold weather and an un-insulated garage don't make for a very good video recording atmosphere, hopefully now that the weather is getting warmer I can capture on video the dangerous, blatant disregard for traffic laws that drivers using this intersection display 24 hours a day seven days a week.

I can tell you that this is a serious issue and it should not continue to be ignored, as you can see Rich Cook doesn't seem to think something should be done until there is an accident and the previous Mayor just pawned me off onto others. The enforcement of these stop signs would surely help with the speeding on this road as drivers would naturally being moving slower had they obeyed the stop signs and not ignored them entirely.

I hope you care enough about our town to make a difference and correct this dangerous intersection before something serious happens. I find it disturbing that I have been trying to get this situation corrected for almost 2 years now to no avail.

Dear Mr.. Kessler,

Traffic Cameras are currently not allowed to be placed at intersections that are controlled by stop signs. In fact the State of NJ has only started a pilot program for traffic cameras to be installed at intersections controlled by a traffic light. There is only one intersection currently in NJ that now has cameras at traffic lights. The installation of speed humps would not affect drivers stopping at the intersection because they do not have any impact on vehicles driving less then 25 MPH. Also it is not recommended that they be installed at close proximity to intersections. The town currently only has one street with speed humps and it currently has no impact on the speed of vehicles that travel on that roadway. A review of traffic accidents at this location show that there has not been a reported accident in over six years. We will continue to monitor this intersection and place appropriate manpower when available.

Mayor,

I would like to thank you for your attention to this long, ongoing matter. I did notice a police officer at the intersection in the morning the Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately this is only a temporary solution to this dangerous situation. Back in June of 2008 you mentioned the testing of speed bumps in Montville Township, this would be a perfect solution for this intersection as it would be impossible and impractical to have the police patrol this intersection on a continued basis. Can something like speed bumps or even traffic cameras be discussed? I constantly see people speeding past the stop signs 7 days a week around the clock. There needs to be a permanent solution asap.

It has been almost 1 year since I last wrote you on the dangerous traffic situation at the intersection of Cheryl/ Konner Ave and East Cheryl. The flagrant disregard for the stop signs on Cheryl and East Cheryl continues after more than 1.5 years since I raised this concern to your attention. Why won't you correct this problem, speed bumps, traffic cameras, something. Cars continue to ignore the stop signs and speed through this intersection all day and night, 7 days a week.
