Notified About

  • 18 Morningside Avenue - Morningside Heights

Park Barbecuing is ruining Morningside Park, namely:

    · Hot coals being discarded next to trees

    · Massive increase in garbage and debris

    · Not enough instructional signs or enforcement of rules

    · Impact to eco-system of pond by garbage, coals and debris

    · Health issue being posed by rodents feeding on discarded food and garbage.

  • trash, non working equipment, bathrooms, lights, etc.
  • Morningside Avenue new york, NY - Morningside Heights

Morningside Park was completely trashed this morning. Those who left garbage could, in fairness, actually be charged for dumping given the amount of litter and trash they left behind.

Over the weekend, the park was not use-able given the anti-social behaviors of the barbecue crowd, perhaps the same crowd who destroyed the lawns, the plants, and the pond with their litter, left-over food, and discarded cardboard boxes.

Isn't drinking banned in the park ? Why are no tickets issued ?

Why is no one on hand as these people "check out," so to speak, to be sure that they remove their own messes ?

Why are no summons issued for littering ?

This needs to be addressed so that the park can be used by everyone in the neighborhood.

Bags of trash which have not been cleaned up in weeks in piles on the steps going up to 116th, dead rats and lots of animal feces also.
  • 13 Morningside Ave Manhattan, NY 10026, USA - Morningside Heights
The summer barbeques are once again destroying the grass and threatening the trees in this area of the park. Coals have been dumped up against at least half of the trees even though signs clearly state that it is killing the trees. If regulations are not enforced (signage is not enough!) in this area of the park then soon there won't be much of a park left - just dirt and withered trees and plants.
  • 100 Morningside Dr New York, NY 10027, USA - Morningside Heights
trashed HOT coals on side garden via slope, next to picnic area. I love the idea of a place where we can come together as a community to bbq or cookout, very nice community building idea. However, we also need to be mindful of the natural habitat and privilege that we have in using the few green spaces that we have on mother earth. Educating the park users, mandatory course in order to BBQ in the park - if you have this required course than you are allowed to BBQ. Make them responsible citizens of the park.

The Summer season is right in the corner and along with it comes the Barbecue nightmare! Why have we located the narrowest part of the part to be the Barbecuing area. Every weekend, I'm the victim (along with all resident of the 18 morningside building) of nuisance of the barbecue - Smoke and smell entering my living room - noise of those barbercue parties which can last up to 10:00pm! - and all trash left behing the next day !!!
Why don't we re-allocate these barbecue areas on wider space and more isolated surfaces away from the front windows of the morningside avenue residents? and also, why don't we re-inforce the rules of the park. I constantly see people barbecuing in areas where it is not allow, people drinking alchool while it is prohibited, and using powerful music amplifier.
What can we do to protect and respect our common property which is this beautiful park?
