The entirety of Chabot Road to Golden Gate needs to be redone. There are so many potholes. This is the only route to Montclair for cyclists and the road is terrible. I bike it weekly with 3 children, including a baby, because it is the only route to where we need to go and I worry about flat tires as well as all the effect of the shaking from the uneven road beneath us. This road needs to be repaired.

The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 517176. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

Thanks for reporting this. Please note that all of Chabot Road is already scheduled for repaving with the work to be done by 2015, although I've heard one report that it could be completed as early as this year. Bicycle shared-lane markings will be painted on the roadway after the paving is completed.

Good news, it looks like the contract that the Chabot Rd street paving is on was approved and is very likely to be completed this year in 2014! This will include the entire stretch of road from College Ave to Golden Gate Ave, and bicycle shared-lane markings will be painted once the paving is complete.

On top of that Oakland has initiated a "pothole blitz" with the intention of filling 2,500 potholes around the city, starting in East Oakland and then moving northwest throughout the next several months. I'm not sure which project will get to Chabot first, but at least there is a lot of movement in a positive direction.
