Encampment on the lake This has been here for months Why is this allowed What's to keep others from doing the same It's an eyesore to our beautiful lake !

Oakland City Council unanimously voted to approve the Encampment Management Policy, meant to “protect and serve all Oaklanders, sheltered and unsheltered, and to manage the adverse impacts of homeless camps by balancing the interests of all residents (i.e. unhoused, housed, business community).” In fact, this policy was intended to reinforce laws that are already in existence in Oakland, but that are not being enforced by the city.

City leadership at it's WORST. Oakland has become the lawless capital of the free world. Only in Oakland can you camp and crap where you want, dump trash anywhere, cover the entire city with graffiti, rob, carjack, steal all without fear of consequences and the full blessing of a city council. Please VOTE FOR PRO LAW ENFORCMENT candidates come next election.

The renovation of Lake Merritt once known as the “Jewel of Oakland” was funded from Measure DD, a $198 million bond Oakland voters passed in 2002. Of that, $115 million was allocated for Lake Merritt.

$115,000,000 of taxpayers money to provide a homeless encampment, allow illegal vending, illegal parking, dumping of trash, graffiti vandalism, amplified music and violent crime.

This mini-encampment has degraded further into a massive rat-infested trash pile as of mid-july. This spot on the lake used to be the center of picnic and recreation activities. Oakland spends $$$ refurbishing the pergola 30 steps away while allowing this blight to impact thousands of visitors, because the resident 'refused' an offer of free housing in city-provided apartment. This is outrageous and encourages further degradation of public space.

Wow so sad that mayor shaft's parks near her home have none of these problems.... But yet these people live rent free on the waterfront. I guess my dad taught me wrong to work hard for a paycheck.
