说明
The front yard is not too bad, but the side and back yards are way overgrown. This is a corner property and the problem along Memphis goes all the way south to the next yard, which is pretty messy too.

Jacqueline Payne are you any relation to Peggy?

Last week I noticed surveyors measuring and marking the lot and another haul away service was cleaning up the yard and cluttered garage contents. Could be steps toward a safer neighborhood if one more of the long term empty properties have occupants. We have too many abandoned homes in the squared area between Saginaw and MI Ave/Jennison and Verlinden. Many are empty because people have walked away from them.

I'm a senior and have been a homeowner for 40 years in different parts of the country. It saddens me to see the anger expressed on community sites rather than neighbors taking the time to be there for each other in person, the way it used to be. Please don't insist a family in need should beg strangers for help. Not fair to expect them, while struggling through challenges unknown to you and I,to find the strength to approach their silent neighbors. They have been hounded by code enforcement mail generated by same neighbors they've never had an in person "hello" from. They've seen the obvious judgements posted on this community board and continue to feel broken and unwanted. Not exactly a welcoming motivator. Dani as a representative of your neighborhood you are being called on to promote inclusive harmony, please try and look a little closer between the lines at your neighbors individual life situations. If you have time look up the postings to this site from last winter when so much anger was brewed over the snow on the sidewalks at 1701. The only one I saw step up and shovel the walk was the young lady who is currently walking your parents dog.
Call me an old-timer but before computers we had to get to know our neighbors in person, we made time to engage in getting to know them and their situation. There was no means to shoot out complaint emails visible to all including the persons working their way through a difficult family trial. Taking the approach of what we old-timers call "by -the -book -Becky" and insisting everyone comply at exactly the correct times with code precision divides relationships and breaks neighbors.
The last block west of your parents has consistently had isolated families, seniors and those with home bound health problems. I've spent time with these families. In many cases the homes are rentals so combining these points; the family doesn't have the fiscal or physical abilities nor the commitment of home "ownership" to maintain the property we will see it deteriorate. It isn't the landlords responsibility to reach out a hand of acceptance it's ours. (Yes, we can all agree on the landlord's responsibilities to follow codes etc) Your parents have the opportunity to call on you and your spouse as needed, right around the corner, so very fortunate. Please understand your families situation is the exception. There are many with no support available. This isn't their fault, something out of control can happen to any of us unexpectedly. An inclusive, caring neighbor might be their only lifeline.

1700 W Shiawassee, 1701, 1612,1602 and 318 Memphis have all been reviewed by code compliance.
Would the suggested improvement to the 87 garden yards in the Westside Neighborhood be returning all to turf...an outmoded and environmentally damaging throw back?
