We West Oaklanders have got to pay close attention to the Mayoral campaign leading to the 11/4/14 voting. Our new Mayor's #1 PRIORITY SHOULD BE to clean up the 1.2 mile stretch from the Emeryville border to Grand Ave along San Pablo Avenue. As long as the candidate offers concrete plans for a place to house the "street people" so that unhealthy, drug addicted, mentally unbalanced, homeless people are not just littering San Pablo Ave and its side streets; and provides funding to keep this area clean, I'm pushing a drive (going door door) throughout West Oakland Neighbors, West Oakland Green Initiative (WOGI), West-Oak High School Athletic Booster Club for him or her to win; gotta make sure WHOMEVER is elected Mayor addresses THIS area of Oakland first and foremost.
I would suggest it's rather audacious of you to hijack the whole site to promote your hobbyhorse. However worthy the cause - I too would love to see a rejuvenated San Pablo Avenue - each entry here deals with a specific issue, not with the November election.
Anonymous, govern yourself, not me! I will continue to bring awareness to the fact that this entire area of Oakland can and will become better by holding the new Mayor accountable, prior to him or her taking office.
If you cannot see the big picture, then you stay within the realm of YOUR hobbyhorse, my vision is vast.
A group of us, who constantly and consistently use SCF to clean up the illegal dumping, feces on the sidewalk, graffiti plaguing West Oakland, are meeting together for coffee to discuss strategies including having Channel 2 produce a segment about the horrors at the park on 32nd & San Pablo; and having the Mayoral hopefuls table our issues: the fact that people brag about leaving their neighborhoods//homes and come to our area to dump couches & other large items, the shopping cart society, the disproportionate amount of so-called helping organizations infesting the 1.2 mile stretch along San Pablo. You are welcome to be a part of the solution.
To the Anonymous Guest - shame on you for lecturing the people who work hard to improve the neighborhood. Your comments are trite and unwelcome.
To the West Oakland Neighbor Lady - we all applaud your courage, dedication and we support you! I would like to join your group.
To All - I just received the following email from Patricia Rose / Neighborhood Services Coordinator:

IG, thanks for the encouraging words. I, in no way, am attempting any "propaganda" or "self-promotion" as Anonymous suggests, and have absolutely no idea who should be voted in as our new Mayor. However, I do think this is the prime opportunity to bring our plight to a very large audience by making the Mayoral hopefuls weigh in as to how they will be rectifying this horrible problem of human blight in West Oakland. I had to go into work yesterday, and was unable to attend the neighborhood meeting but would love to get together and brainstorm with some folks, it's too ridiculous and disgusting around here (I live on 31st & Market) and have had people tell me they've changed their minds about visiting me due to what they've seen around the neighborhood. And maybe we could meet with Operation Dignity so that they can be made aware of the severity of the homeless encampments and other horrors that we who live here have to drive all day/everyday.
