This is a problem all over the city, and the Public "Works" Dept does nothing about it, even after having it pointed out. There are storm drains along Beach St, and the adjoining perpendicular streets (e.g. Peck, East, Anderson, Morse) that are clogged with trash. Not only does this prevent water from moving as quickly as possible, to minimize flooding, but that trash, once it makes its way through the grates, goes straight out to the Sound. Here's a good one: a few weeks ago, PW finally cleared the phragmites and knotweed overgrowth along Morse Ave, a street that is under water during heavy rains and high tides. But all they did was cut the weeds, and then left the debris right where it fell, including over two important storm drains. that debris is still there. I called about this over two weeks ago, and still nothing has been done. Meanwhile, PW crew spend hours each day at Grove Park, where one guy will use a leafblower to push a handful of leaves, kicking up huge clouds of dust....because he has nothing better to do? And the maintenance guys at Morse Park will weekwhack down to the dirt along the fenceposts. But PW complains they don't have the resources to take care of critical issues like this. Who sets these screwy priorities? Logic and common sense are in short order in West Haven.
