Structure has been cndemned throught Municipal Court and is awaiting demolition. I will let the people that handle demolition know that the conditions are bad and that we are continuing to get complaints about the property. hcj

If this house is on the list for demolition, who is responsible for keeping the sidewalk clear of grass and debris on the side of the house, facing Elm Street?

The property is still the responsibility of the property owner. We have not had any luck getting them to maintain the property, that is why we obtained a condemnation order for the property. Once the structure is demolished the lot will be cleared. The maintenance now and afterwards will be the responsibility of the property owner. The city will not take the property, but will place a lien on the property for the cost of the demolition and clean up. You may want to contact Public Works at 478-803-0484 to see if they might come out and check the right of way to see if there is anything they can do, but if it is on the property itself, it is the owner's responsibility. The property owner of 1407 Jackson Street is the Bibb County Land Bank Authority, which is part of the county government. You can contact the head of the Land Bank Authority, Alison Souther, at 741-9005 and she should have a crew sent out to deal with the lot. The idea is that the Land Bank will hold the building (and will maintain the yard) until development reaches that corner and the house will be rehabbed. Anyhow, Mrs. Royal, at our monthly neighborhood association meetings, we ask that fellow neighbors bring up these issues and then, on behalf of the neighborhood, and we put in requests to the proper people to have them dealt with. The meeting last one hour and take place the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm at the Centenary Church Community Center. We'd love to see you there.

Thank you Aaron Zaritzky for contacting the Land Bank Authority. We have acquired the property, but we are unaware of a demolition order. I will speak with H. Joyner and in the meantime, we will have our maintenance person clean up the yards and premises. The Land Bank Authority acquired the property on behalf of Historic Hills & Heights (HHH) for future redevelopment. We will be in contact with HHH and Code Enforcement to determine the future plans for the property.

My next question was going to be how far along on the demolition list is this house? If Land Bank Authority is unaware of such findings, then what is really going on?

As to the exterior premises, the yard is not thoroughly kept. The back of the house is in dire need of maintaining. The trees are an added issue, because they hide and add to the cluttered mess at the rear of the house, which is sitting right next the house I'm renting. I have asked my landlord to have the trees pruned or just cut completely away from the houses, but this is costly. If I could, I would do it myself.

I am unfamiliar with the Historic Hills & Heights, but I will make myself familiar. Please keep me abreast of any new developments regarding the rehab or demolition of this structure.

Also, I would love to attend the neighborhood association meetings. Hope to see you soon.
