Description
There is no way for a pedestrian to request to walk, as pushing the button to request to walk does NOTHING. This is a pedestrian death waiting to happen - and there is no excuse for this BRAND NEW traffic light (installed just weeks ago after a motorist hit the original pole) to already have a broken, non-functioning WALK/DO NOT WALK light, as well as an ineffective button for triggering a red light for pedestrians to cross. Motorists completely ignore anyone in the crosswalk and assume the light is working, when in reality the entire pedestrian crossing system is NOT EVEN TURNED ON (there is no light on at all in the walk/don't walk sign). This intersection is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS right now, and I frequently need to cross here with my stroller and young child in tow. A mother literally lives in the house across from AJ King, and she cannot get the cars to stop - even though they see her with her double stroller, infant, and toddler, they just whiz right on through - assuming we will get our light when it changes. How long is the city going to gamble the lives of families and children waiting to fix what is a blatantly malfunctioning traffic light, at an already dangerous intersection where motorists often fail to stop even when the light is working and they have a red light??? At least make it a flashing red for heaven's sake - I can't even go for a walk with my toddler to visit our friend across the street without having drivers play "chicken" with me and ignore the fact that I am pushing a stroller.

A. Walk/Do Not Walk Pedestrian signal and corresponding traffic light
A. The button used to work very quickly and it would turn the yellow into a solid red. This light is ignored so often that it really should be better marked

You are all absolutely correct, the signal was knocked down in an accident and will be fully restored and brought up to date by today's standards in the near future. We are waiting for parts and as soon as we get them in the near future we will install them.
