John, let me share a little experience of living next to a speed hump on Booraem between Palisade and Webster. After a speedhump was installed on our block 2 years ago it got more noisy. Cars slow down before the speed hump and then press on gas after. You get constant noise and more exhaust fumes. I wish this speed hump was not installed and the city ticketed speed violators instead. Also big trucks don't mind the hump and just speed over. We have a No Trucks sign on our block too but no one cares.

Dear Alex, I appreciate your feedback and experience. I understand there is a negative side to having a speed hump. I am open to alternatives. My main concern is reckless driving. Cars often speed around the bend on Booraem, others speed up and down Abbett (which is a one way street). I am not alone in my concern. Animals have already been maimed and killed because of recklessness. I am not sure how else to slow cars down except through speed humps. But if there are, I'd love to hear about them. Best

I just wanted to say I am so sad to hear about your loss, and that you had to say goodbye to Gigi in such a horrible and painful way. I am going to send in the application for a speed bump on our street to deter reckless driving, including cell phone use, and the maiming or killing of other animals. I have in fact reported what happened to Gigi to Via (the public transportation company) who were gracious enough to reply to my request to file a report. They told me Via has a zero tolerance policy toward reckless driving and that Via drivers are required to report such incidents when they happen. Via said it would open a formal investigation into what happened. I was encouraged by Via's proactive response – I wish I had received the same level of assistance and empathy from the city's animal control unit.

I'm glad Via is looking into it, in what seems to be a sincere way. I do know the staff at LHS (animal control goes through Liberty Humane in JC) are really overworked and probably in this case had to reclassify it as a traffic request rather than an animal issue, but I'm so sorry your inquiry wasn't met with empathy or respectfulness. No one deserves the cold shoulder when trying to improve their neighborhood, but it's an especially cruel response for someone in the throws of grief. I'm really so sorry folks weren't more kind, and I'm personally sad I didn't get to meet Gigi, who looked like a sweeheart and was surely a special girl. It's already so awful that their lives are so much shorter than ours, and then for it to be made even shorter by a reckless and preventable tragedy is awful, and I'm just glad if the action this even has spurred prevents others from being similarly hurt. <3

Speed humps are installed on Booraem Ave in this area.

There are NO speed humps between abbett and lienau. This is for the curve right before lienau. It’s basically blind if your trying to turn onto booraem from lienau. People speed past here all the time so many near misses with those turning left.

Wasn’t that already done by the person who opened the complaint? It’s you who said there is a speed bump there already and there isn’t. Please explain why another person needs to fill out another application when your conclusion is that it already exists?

Plus this is a pedestrian safety request.. u can’t close it. What’s your results from the study?

There has not been a submission for this location. Also, there are existing speed humps on Booraem as stated between Webster & Abbett, as well as between Lienau Pl & Central. The small block stretch between Abbett & Lienau does not have a speed hump yet, but in order to get processed for approval, the application needs to be filled out. For clarification purposes, Booraem was measured at just about 1000ft between Webster & Central which is why only 2 speed humps were installed. The number of speed humps a particular block gets are added based on the length of each block. Exceptions can be made such as in this instance.
