The address is really Berkeley. However, the report was sent to Oakland as the App is smart enough to know which jurisdiction is responsible for the problem.
Clearly you have zero understanding of the 94705 zip code, yet somehow insist that you are knowledgable. The entirety of the zip code has a Berkeley address, regardless of the actual municipal jurisdiction of a particular parcel. The USPS dictates the address, not the city of Oakland and not the city of Berkeley.
Congratulation, you deserve a Nobel Prize for your discovery. (By the way every one in our area knows where we live, but I guess you got to publish it in SeeClickFix first so you deserve the prize.). I do not know what is your point, but to argue. The City of Oakland got the report and your comments are not helping fix the problem. The app is smart enough and sends the report to the proper municipality. Unless you want to comment more about the issue, I suggest you stop the discussion.
Gotta love those 94705-zip folks; Heaven Forbid they are referred to as living in OAKLAND...
Alway willing to learn from my 'betters', please kindly explain why, if you insist this is a Berkeley address, you are reporting it to Oakland's DPW? Why are you not reporting to Berkeley SeeClickFix? (http://en.seeclickfix.com/berkeley)
or Berkeley's 311? (http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/onlineservicecenter/)
Dear "The address is really Berkeley" -
...according to the City of Berkeley's map room, not so much... My "point" is to _not_ vote up issues that my OAKLAND tax dollars pay to remediate.
calonergan...get a life. The USPS, which is the official government agency for determining a street address, does not recognize use of Oakland for ANY address within 94705. I know this might be mind blowing to your puny, challenged brain. But it's true.
The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 556040. Please check back for status updates or contact us directly at (510) 615-5566.
The wall was designed by Oakland PW and was too short and so the fence has gathered weeds and soil downwash and will surely fail the next several rains. Cleaning the lots that have been inviolation for years at a time. We have turned these lots in for violations and every couple of years the City cleans them. But more needs to be done before Charing Cross gets flooded with mud and weeds through a broken fence.
Also the water build up applying large hydrostatic head pressure and overturning moment needs to be relieved with weep holes at the bottom, like all retaining walls must have. But Oaklands PW design lacked such drainage weep holes and these should be inserted into the wall at street level.
We pay Oakland taxes, therefore, we live in Oakland.
Regarding the impact of the image above and the entire section of Charing Cross between the last house in Hiller Highlands and Sherwick. Drive . . . before the walls and fences were built there was always dirt & rocks in large chunks that blocked the road that needed to be cleared by the city similar to the problems that show up on Tunnel Road after a rain.
Please address the potential hazard of the rocks and debris falling on Charing Cross Road before it causes litigation that the City (us the taxpayers) can not afford.
Thank you for your request. According to our system, we already have an open service request at this location. Your service request has been combined with service request # 556059 . If you would like to check the status of the request, please contact the Public Works Call Center at (510) 615-5566 or pwacallcenter@oaklandnet.com.

Putting the plastic on the hill is a temporary measure. When will the dirt and debris be removed to that the fence is not stopping the debris. The fence is not a retaining wall. It will eventually break and the debris will fall on the road.
The plastic and sand bags were set up in December just before the major storm. That cannot be a permanent solution. Hello... The City of Oakland is supposed to read everyone of these comments? The last reply from PW was over 4 months ago.
Oakland Public Works: this is an easy problem to fix, just shovel the dirt off the top into a truck. Better yet, solve it permanently by improving the retaining wall.
The holes are getting bigger. The City has decided there is no need fix potholes anymore. Apparently, it has invested in a business that fixes car suspensions. The city of Oakland prefers that cars break down from all the potholes and it can make money fixing cars.
