The issue relates to vehicles merging on Sanctuary Parkway. Our police officers who observed motorist behavior at the location noted that vehicles turning left onto Sanctuary Parkway were making appropriate turning movements into the left travel lane on that road. Many vehicles turning right onto Sanctuary were observed to be quickly attempting to merge into the left lane, which is causing conflicting movements.

Our traffic engineers are determining how to best manage the competing movements.

If the car going south turning right (I goofed above, north turning left not south) into Santuary Park has the right of way, the car should be able to move into the left lane. The intersection is far to tight to suggest that both the north and the southbound drivers could turn into each of their respective lanes at the same time. I commute through the intersection daily and must come to a complete stop while I wait for the traffic without the right of way to complete their illegal turn.

Hi. The issue is who has the right of way when the light is solid green? Car A or Car B? Car B does not obey the solid green and continues to make the left turn into the park, ignoring the oncoming traffic making the right turn into the park. Car B may need a solid red arrow to prevent left turns when the turn arrow is not green. When the left arrow is green, car A has a solid red and cannot turn on red into the park. When the left arrow disappears and a solid green is present, car B continues to make turns into the park.

There needs to be a definite break of lanes turning into the park. One side had the right of way for over ten years and now the other side has the right of way unless they have a red light. Everyone wants to be in the right lane. The accident ends up in the left lane because both vehicles are not traveling slowly. I am a right turner and almost get hit everyday and would get hit if I didn't stop on a green light. It is very dangerous.

Traffic Engineers will make a signalization change within the next two weeks.

I am thankful this is being studied. I am a left turner into the park and have witnessed far too many wrecks at this intersection. There are several issues: left turners failing to yield, uphill approach going southbound makes it difficult for a left turner to judge oncoming traffic, uncertainty by right turners as to whether or not to yield. In addition, the left turn lane is too short, resulting in a significant back-up with drivers screaming up the left lane and cutting into the left turn lane. I think the turn lane should be extended and left turns should be allowed on green arrow only.

Any update on changes?

The signal at this location is being reconfigured to permit left turns only on a green left arrow. We are testing the signal this week and plan to implement the new signal configuration next week.

Please note that due to this week's string of winter weather events, the implementation of the planned new signal configuration at the subject location is being rescheduled.
